Literature through Theatre Series
The Literature through Theatre series is an academic look at the Literature of plays. We will work through several classic plays, examining the life of the author and the societal environment in which a work was created. Allowing the "cast" to perform and think through the production start to finish, while grappling with understanding the realities of the artist's world, helps the student internalize the lessons of the work.
This class is for our High School students due to the mature content of some of our plays. Full syllabus and materials list available on August 14th. This class begins Thursday, August 27, 2020.
Literature Through Theatre will meet via Zoom most Thursdays from 1:00-3:00 pm. Tuition $50 per month (See Class Fees for Full Details).
One of the things I've noticed about drama kids is their ability to "improvise." Whether that is because they forgot their lines or because they feel the character has a different "motivation," the creativity is strong in this set. In this semester-long creative writing class, your student has the power to create the lines, the motivation, and dare I say, "the whole world" of a brand new play.
Scriptwriting will meet via Zoom most Fridays from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Tuition $40 per month (See Class Fees for Full Details)
A mixed-age Theatre Arts class, this is our beginning point to theatre. We will study various aspects of theatre. There will be public speaking, stage acting, music, technical theatre, scene preparation, ensemble building, and writing. It is a broad overview for the beginner and a way to hone and perfect skills for the more advanced student. Historically, this class has produced two shows per year, Fall and Spring. Due to the volatile nature of the COVID situation, our plan is having to be more flexible. We are planning on smaller casts and more, albeit smaller show options.
We will be meeting via Zoom on Friday, August 21, and Friday, August 28 and planning to meet Live from Friday, September 4th forward. These meetings are planned from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, with the probability that the Zoom meetings will be a little shorter.
SHPA Classic meets most Fridays from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Tuition $50 per month (See Class Fees for Full Details)
Trying to produce shows and still teach anything new requires time. This year we will be requiring some extra rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 6-8 and Saturdays from 10-12, HOWEVER, this will be cast dependant and the final schedule will be released at the top of each show. Please be patient with us.
Rehearsals will be posted on our Events Calendar which you will find on the Events Tab above.
All Class Meetings and Rehearsals are subject to change.
Please reference your weekly email.
Public Speaking with Ms. Stacey
Public Speaking is considered by many as the number one fear in society today. In survey after survey the fear of Public Speaking has consistently beaten out bugs, and clowns, and even death. With good communication listed as a significant skill needed for class projects, college entrance, and finding a great place in the job market, what's a person to do? Never fear. This stuff is easy, it just takes practice.
Working with people who need to have a voice is kind of a passion of mine. I've worked with adults and children for more than 25 years.
